#1 – Moonfish
Address: 7525 W. Sand Lake Road, Orlando, FL 32819
Phone Number: (407) 363-7262
Coming in at #1 is Moonfish for the exquisite, friendly and vibrant dining experience they offer up to seafood lovers in Dr. Phillips. They’ve mastered the combination of a casual yet elegant atmosphere and the food that follows is simply phenomenal. As with any dining experience, my companion and I started off with a refreshing selection from Moonfish’s extensive drink menu. I went with a white zinfandel while my companion opted for the #OrlandoStrong Sunset, a fruity cocktail that has 100% of its proceeds going to the OneOrlando Fund. (Way to show your support for Orlando, Moonfish!)
For an appetizer, we knew right away that the Truffle Fries were calling our names. The presentation was just as mouthwatering inducing as the fries themselves which came tossed in Parmesan cheese and served with a side of ketchup and wasabi gorgonzola buttermilk ranch dressing. The evening only continued to get better as our server Ashley informed us that every entree at Bonefish comes with house salad and a basket of cheesy bread, both of which were brought out as a first course. The salad was the largest and most colorful salad I’ve ever been served as a complimentary side. The vibrant and leafy greens came topped with sliced beets, red and yellow tomatoes, fried shallots, goat cheese and orange ginger dressing. The cheesy bread was warm and light with an authentic straight-out-of-the-oven level of freshness.
Soon after, the main courses arrived in spectacular fashion. With Ashley’s help, I decided to order the Blackened Pacific Swordfish with lobster gravy mashed potatoes. The succulent swordfish was thick, tender and perfectly seasoned while the mashed potatoes were a heavenly side. With Bonefish’s commitment to fresh fish being flown in daily, I was even able to learn that my swordfish was caught by Captain J. McGlashen off the coast of Ecuador! While I dove into my plate, my companion was enjoying the Bouillabaisse Chef Feature. The steaming bowl of fish stew came with a generous helping of scallops, calamari, mussels, shrimp and rice.
After sampling the Bouillabaisse, it immediately became apparent why it was a chef feature. From the scallops to the mussels, each item tasted as if it had been individually prepared to an ideal consistency, yet the spices and freshness all came together in one unified burst of seafood flavor. From beginning to end, our whole evening at Moonfish was a pure delight. The light atmosphere made for a relaxed evening of dining on some of the finest seafood I’ve ever encountered. The food presentation alone was praiseworthy, but I was most impressed by the overall value of the meal and the generous portions of the accompanying sides. Whether you’re in need of a new date night idea or just looking to fulfill your seafood fix, check out Moonfish in Dr. Phillips for some of the best seafood in the area!
